Amy Gallacher and Ellie Kane have collected the August 2023/24 Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) Player of the Month awards, supported by Park’s Motor Group. These are the first awards of the 2023/24 season which kicked off on Sunday 13th August.
Gallacher had a prolific month as Celtic won all four of their matches, scoring 30 goals in the process. The forward was responsible for a third of that total, scoring six and providing four assists.
Alongside teammate Kit Loferski, both players ended the month top goalscorers in the league, but Gallacher has since moved ahead with a hat-trick against Hibernian on Sunday.
Gallacher has been nominated before for the January 2023 award but this is the first time she has won the accolade.
In ScottishPower Women’s Premier League 2, Ellie Kane becomes the second Queen’s Park player to win the award after an incredible start to the 2023/24 campaign.
Playing in a role further up the park, Kane has rewarded her side with seven goals and three assists. Having scored 15 so far this season, Kane has been involved in 66% of Queen’s Parks’ goals.
She has nearly doubled her total from last season having scored four goals in 2022/23 as her side carry a 100% record going into September.
The nominees for the August 2023 SWPL award were Chelsea Cornet (Rangers), Cara Henderson (Partick Thistle), and Kathleen McGovern (Heart of Midlothian) and for the SWPL 2 award were Lucie Burns (Kilmarnock) and Mariluz Sanchez (Stirling University).
