Sky Sports have selected the much anticipated first Old Firm meeting as their initial broadcast game for the 2025/26 season, as Celtic host Rangers on Sunday 7th September. Elena Sadiku’s side will be hoping to return to their best this season following a 4th placed finish last season and this match could provide an excellent opportunity to lay down a marker. Rangers will be hoping to continue their strong run of form away to Celtic, having won the last three meetings at New Douglas Park.
BBC ALBA have selected the first Edinburgh derby of the season at Tynecastle Park between Hearts and Hibernian to kick-off an exciting day of SWPL action on Sunday, 7th September. The away side came out triumphant in all four of the derbies last season between the sides and last season’s Champions Hibernian will be hoping that trend continues. The Jambos will be hoping to draw first blood in this season’s derbies in front of a bumper home support.
BBC ALBA have also selected Aberdeen v Celtic and Celtic v Hibernian on Sunday, 14th and Sunday, 21st September respectively before heading to Ibrox for Rangers v Glasgow City on Sunday, 28th September. This will be new Rangers Head Coach Leanne Crichton’s first test against her former side, in what promises to be an epic encounter between two teams that both finished in the top 3 last term.
BBC Sport Scotland will be showing the pick of the action from Petershill on back-to-back weekends in September, starting with Partick Thistle v Rangers on Sunday 14th September. New Thistle Head Coach David Elliot will be hoping for a strong start to his reign at the Jags as they aim to get back to a top 6 finish this upcoming season. This will be followed by Glasgow City v Hearts on Sunday 21st September. Leanne Ross’ side won their two home matches against Hearts last season while Eva Olid’s side held City to two goalless draws at the Oriam, so this promises to be a closely fought encounter.
Fiona McIntyre, SWPL Managing Director, said: “There are games across all three of our broadcast partners coming up, including coverage of the thrilling Old Firm and Edinburgh derbies across Sky Sports and BBC ALBA respectively on the 7th September.
“As we count down to the beginning of the season, which is now less than two weeks away, we encourage fans to get along to matches or tune in to Sky Sports, BBC ALBA, and BBC Sport Scotland if you can’t be there in person, for what is set to be the most competitive and unpredictable SWPL season yet”.
