Kirsty Howat and Sophie Townsley have collected the March 2025 Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) Player of the Month awards, supported by Park’s Motor Group.
Kirsty Howat wins the award following a number of excellent performances during the month. Kirsty has made it a hat-trick of SWPL Player of the Month awards in her career as this award adds to the two she earned last season. The Scottish international contributed four goals in as many matches in March, bringing her to a total of 13 goals and five assists in 24 matches across the League and Sky Sports Cup for Rangers this season.
Rangers were dominant throughout March, picking up seven points out of a possible nine in the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League, including an impressive 8-0 win away from home against Motherwell, where Howat bagged a brace. Kirsty’s contributions across all four games have helped Rangers continue their title tilt in the SPWPL, where they sit in third, just one point back from the summit.
The Gers also ran out victors of the Sky Sports Cup for the third year in a row, beating Hibernian 5-0 at Fir Park, where over 4000 fans watched Kirsty, and the team lift the coveted trophy. Howat played a key role throughout the game where she scored a driven right footed shot, helping to earn her the Player of the Match award.
In the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League 2, Sophie Townsley wins the award for the second time this season. The Rangers loanee continues to impress in SPWPL 2, helping Hamilton Academical extend their lead at the top of the table.
The winger scored a remarkable seven goals across four matches in March, including four in one game against Ayr United, which rightfully earned her the star player accolade in that particular SWPL Team of the Week.
Sophie also scored two crucial goals, including the winner, in Hamilton’s 3-2 victory over Livingston, along with another goal in their dominant display over Rossvale. Her impressive goal scoring throughout March has elevated her to 17 for the season, narrowly behind only her teammate Josephine Giard at the top of the SWPL 2 goalscoring chart.
The other nominees for the March 2025 SWPL award were Jessica Broadrick (Aberdeen), Hannah Jordan (Spartans), and Linzi Taylor (Hibernian) and for the SWPL 2 award were Olivia Hurrell (St Johnstone) and Jade Wilson (Gartcairn).
