Gallacher and Cowie win final Player of the Month awards
- SWPL
- SWPL 2
Amy Gallacher and Ellie-May Cowie have collected the May 2023/24 Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) Player of the Month awards, supported by Park’s Motor Group. These are the final awards of the season with Goal of the Season to be announced next month.
Gallacher wins the award for the second time this season after winning in August 2023. Celtic went unbeaten in May as they won the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League on the final day with Gallacher scoring the vital goal.
The forward got three goals in the month as she featured in all five matches. It was a key month for her side as they drew with both Glasgow City and Rangers before a 1-0 win against Hibernian at Celtic Park secured their first ever SWPL title.
It has been an outstanding year for Gallacher who finished as the clubs’ highest goalscorer (25 goals) and provided the most assists (19).
Ellie-May Cowie also wins the SWPL 2 award for the second time this season after winning in March 2024. While it was a disappointing month for her side, the left sided player scored five goals from four matches.
St Johnstone had looked to be battling for a top four place earlier in the season, but a run six defeats across April and May saw them finish 5th and nine points behind Boroughmuir Thistle.
The nominees for the May 2024 SWPL award were Jorian Baucom (Hibernian), Victoria Esson (Rangers), and Jade McLaren (Montrose) and for the SWPL 2 award were Ashley Fish (Livingston) and Ami Robertson (Queen’s Park).
