McGovern and Burns win SWPL Player of the Month awards for April

Kathleen McGovern and Lucie Burns have collected the April 2025 Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) Player of the Month awards, supported by Park’s Motor Group.
Kathleen McGovern continues to impress for the current league leaders, winning the award for the second time this season. At the conclusion of April, Kathleen had managed to get her season goal tally up to an impressive 26 goals across the League and Sky Sports Cup.
The Scotland youth international went on a scoring spree throughout the month, scoring in 3 out of 4 of Hibernian’s league matches, aside from the tightly contested 0-0 draw at New Douglas Park against Celtic.
Throughout the month the top 6 split provided four very closely contested matches for Hibernian, with less than a two-goal differential in each of their matches. The striker played a pivotal role in Hibernian’s Edinburgh derby victory against Hearts and their impressive 2-0 win over Rangers at Meadowbank, scoring in each, with a tidy backheel and looping header respectively. A further goal against Motherwell also earnt her a spot in that SWPL Team of the Week, sealing off a stunning month for Hibernian’s top scorer.
In the Scottish Women’s Premier League 2 (SWPL 2), Lucie Burns wins the award for the first time in her career. The youngster has impressed this season in SWPL 2, helping keep Kilmarnock in the title hunt throughout the month.
Kilmarnock kickstarted the month with a convincing 6-2 win at home over St Johnstone. Burns crucially scored the first two goals of the game which helped build momentum for the team to go on to record a comfortable victory. Lucie also earnt herself a deserved place in the SWPL Team of the Week for her magnificent performance against title rivals Hamilton where she contributed to both of Kilmarnock’s goals, providing a brilliant cutback assist and neatly finished effort of her own when she rounded the Hamilton goalkeeper in their 2-1 win at Rugby Park.
Lucie’s impressive goal contributions throughout April have shot her up to 14 goals and 7 assists for the season. Although the title has now been decided, Lucie’s impressive month has topped off another solid season for the Ayrshire side, where they currently sit second going into the final game of the season.
The other nominees for the April 2025 SWPL award were Tiree Burchill (Partick Thistle), Brenna Lovera (Glasgow City) and Eva Thomson (Aberdeen) and for the SWPL 2 award were Abby Robinson (Kilmarnock) and Rebecca Galbraith (Boroughmuir Thistle).
