BBC ALBA have selected a total of seven games across the opening seven rounds, starting with Aberdeen v Rangers. It will be Colin Bell’s first league match as head coach of Aberdeen with the 2015 UEFA Women’s Champions League winner looking to cause a shock on the first weekend of the season. Jo Potter’s side were 2-1 winners at the Balmoral Stadium in January.
BBC ALBA will also broadcast Celtic v Glasgow City the following Sunday, the first meeting between last season’s top three. City finished nine points behind both Celtic and Rangers and will be looking to reclaim the league title they won in 2022/23. Elena Sadiku’s side only lost once to Glasgow City in five meetings last season as they were crowned league winners for the first time in their history.
BBC Sport Scotland return this season with three confirmed live steams and their highlights show every Monday for weekend fixture rounds. This includes showing the opening day of the season as Celtic host Dundee United at Celtic Park on Saturday 10th August.
Fiona McIntyre, SWPL Managing Director, said: “After last week’s news of over two million people watching the SWPL in the previous season, we’re pleased to follow this with confirmation of the opening broadcast matches in 2024/25. We look forward to working with Sky Sports, BBC ALBA, and BBC Scotland again this season as we aim to showcase the best of the SWPL and engage new audiences to add to the incredible viewers from last season.”
Fiona Mackenzie, BBC ALBA Sport Executive Producer, said: “BBC ALBA is bringing the action from the SWPL to our viewers this 2024/25 season, kicking off with Aberdeen v Rangers during the first weekend of the tournament.
“Our partnership with the SWPL means fans can catch all of the excitement from seven opening fixtures on BBC ALBA and BBC iPlayer, and further matches throughout the season ahead.”
Douglas McNeil, BBC Sport Producer, said: “We are excited for the new SWPL season with three confirmed, starting with the reigning champions against Dundee United from Park live online and via BBC Sport Scotland. The highlights show also returns to bring viewers the action from the weekend’s games.”
