The Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) distributed record payments to clubs, its latest annual accounts confirm.

The organisation’s fourth annual accounts, once again, reveal record-breaking results for women’s league football in Scotland.

In another landmark year for the league, total payments to clubs reached £812,000 – an increase of 48% compared to the previous year. Of this, £707,000 was distributed through club fee payments, while £105,000 was awarded as prize money via the Sky Sports Cup.

This significant increase in total distributions was driven largely by new revenue derived from the SWPL’s commercial exploitation of match data alongside an increase in broadcast revenues. This new revenue, alongside the introduction of HALO, the SPFL Trust and InspireSport as official SWPL partners for the 2025/26 Season, contributed to the SWPL’s turnover reaching a record £1.4 million, an increase of 28% on the previous year, and more than double the turnover achieved in the league’s first season in 2022/23.

ScottishPower continued to be a key contributor to the advancement of the women’s game in Scotland as the principal partner and title sponsor of the SWPL. The SWPL was therefore delighted to secure the renewal of this partnership for a further three years, which was announced at a launch event earlier this year at Edinburgh Castle, in what was one of the most iconic moments of women’s football in Scotland, to date.

Elizabeth Fagan, SWPL Chair, said:

“These latest accounts are extremely encouraging and a real credit to work undertaken at SWPL clubs and within the small, dedicated staff at the SWPL.

“These record-breaking figures demonstrate the increasing popularity of the women’s game in Scotland and provide a strong foundation for future growth.  We recognise the key role the league plays in driving the commercial growth of women’s football in Scotland.  We are therefore delighted to announce both record league revenues and record payments to our clubs over the last 12 months.”

Fiona McIntyre, SWPL Managing Director, said:

“The record figures have been underpinned by the strength of the SWPL’s commercial and broadcast partnerships. As title sponsor, ScottishPower has played a pivotal role in supporting the league’s development in the last three years and we are delighted that they will continue to be a critical partner to the SWPL for another three years.

“On the pitch, the SWPL goes from strength to strength – Hearts winning the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League last season delivered the fourth new champion club in as many years for the league, illustrating the incredible competitiveness of the SWPL.  Our broadcast partners Sky Sports, BBC ALBA, and BBC Scotland have been instrumental in telling that story, taking the SWPL into households across the country whilst also driving both financial growth and visibility for the league.

“With the strength of these existing partnerships and ambition for growth, the SWPL is exceptionally well-positioned for the 2026/27 season and the years ahead.”
