SWPL announces broadcast matches for final day of 2023/24 season

  • General News

The Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) has announced the final ScottishPower Women’s Premier League matches that will be shown on BBC ALBA and BBC Sport Scotland. The games selected are as follows:

Date Match Broadcaster Kick-off
Sunday 19th May Celtic v Hibernian BBC ALBA 2.10pm
Sunday 19th May Rangers v Partick Thistle BBC Sport Scotland 2.10pm

Celtic and Rangers are level on points as the SWPL title race goes to the final day for the second year in a row. Celtic top the table through their superior goal difference, 16 better than Rangers. A victory for Celtic on Sunday against Hibernian should secure their first ever league title, unless their rivals can produce a record breaking result at home to Partick Thistle.

If Celtic fail to win at Celtic Park on Sunday, Rangers will have a chance to clinch the title for the second time in three years if they can better Celtic’s result.

With both matches being shown live, fans will be able to watch the action as it happens and follow the potentially shifting league table throughout the day.

Fiona McIntyre, SWPL Managing Director, said: “We have had yet another unbelievable season as the SWPL will go down to the wire once again. The elite women’s game in Scotland continues to deliver competitive and entertaining football at both ends of the table with the title, relegation, and play-off places in the top league still to be decided.

“I’m delighted that fans who can’t get along to a match in person will be able to watch the title race live across BBC ALBA and BBC Sport Scotland from 2pm. Our Every Game Matters campaign will also cover Hamilton Academical v Montrose from 12pm as both Accies and Dundee United battle to avoid automatic relegation.

“The visibility of the game is vital and on Sunday, fans will be able to follow the dramatic conclusion of the SWPL as it happens.”

Fiona Mackenzie, BBC ALBA Sport Executive Producer, said: “BBC ALBA are delighted to be concluding a very exciting season on Sunday followed by the SWPL Play-off Final on Thursday (23rd). This season has seen much growth in coverage and viewership and we will continue to support the women’s game with pride.”

Douglas McNeil, BBC Sport Producer, said: “With this exciting season going to the last day, both for the title and to avoid relegation, it’s been fantastic to cover the highs and lows on our live stream matches and Sportscene highlights programme to give viewers a front row seat to the SWPL.”
