The Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) can confirm the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League (SPWPL) matches selected for broadcast on BBC ALBA in October are as follows:
Date | Match | Broadcaster | Kick-off |
Wednesday 1st October | Hibernian v Glasgow City | BBC ALBA | 7.35pm |
Sunday 12th October | Hibernian v Rangers | BBC ALBA | 4.10pm |
Sunday 19th October | Celtic v Glasgow City | BBC ALBA | 4.10pm |
BBC ALBA’s selections kick-off with a mouth-watering clash between last season’s top two, in a match postponed to October due to both side’s involvement in UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers this week. Both Hibernian and Glasgow City have started their domestic campaigns strongly, each taking maximum points from their first two matches but this match will be a stern test for both clubs, under the Meadowbank lights.
The BBC ALBA cameras will then head back to Meadowbank just 11 days later for, what we anticipate will be another extremely competitive match between Hibernian and Rangers. The last time these two sides met, the Leith side narrowly came out on top at Ibrox on the final day of last season, sealing the title and confining Rangers to third place, so Rangers will be coming into this match with a score to settle.
Attention will finally turn to Celtic as they take on Glasgow City on 19 October. Alongside Glasgow City and Hibernian, Celtic are the only other side to have maintained a 100% record in the SPWPL in the opening weeks of the season and both sides will be desperate to go into the first international break with another win secured. The matches between these sides always provide excitement and the BBC ALBA cameras will be there to capture the action.
Fiona McIntyre, SWPL Managing Director, said: “We’re pleased to confirm these further live games on BBC ALBA up until the end of October. These matches promise to be amongst some of the most competitive and thrilling, and each could prove vital in determining the outcome of the title race come the end of the season.
“The coverage of the SWPL on BBC ALBA is always exemplary and the growing television audience year-on-year is testament to that. These fixtures will take the total number of matches selected, up to and including round nine of fixtures, to 14 across all of our broadcast partners. We encourage fans to get along to a match to show their support or to tune in if they can’t be there in person”.
