SWPL Confirm Broadcast Selections into Early-October

The Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) can confirm the further ScottishPower Women’s Premier League matches selected for broadcast up to and including the first weekend of October. The games selected across Sky Sports, BBC ALBA, and BBC Sport Scotland are as follows:

Sky Sports have selected the highly anticipated first meeting of the Season, between Rangers and Celtic, which will take place on Sunday 27 September. Grant Scott’s side have made an impressive start to the campaign, securing a 2-1 victory over Glasgow City before beating Montrose 3-0 on matchday two, and will be hoping that these results set the tone for the season ahead. Rangers enjoyed a perfect record against their rivals last season in the league, winning all four meetings in this competition, and will aim to replicate that form in the new campaign. With both sides making a number of changes over the summer, the first meeting of the season promises to be a fascinating contest.

BBC ALBA have selected a further four fixtures, that promise to deliver an exciting few weeks of action in the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League.

The first of these comes on Friday 4 September, as Hibernian welcome Glasgow City for a Friday night clash under the lights at Meadowbank. The two sides finished third and fourth last season and will have aspirations of challenging for the title once again this season.

Two weeks later, following a break in League proceedings for the Sky Sports Cup second round, the BBC ALBA cameras will head to Broadwood for Rangers’ meeting with Aberdeen. Leanne Crichton’s side won both encounters between the teams last season, securing 3-0 victories on each occasion and will be looking to maintain their strong record against the Dons. Meanwhile a new-look Aberdeen will be aiming to improve upon last season’s performances against the Gers.

On Sunday 27 September, BBC ALBA will visit The Vanloq Community Stadium as Hearts welcome Glasgow City, before heading across the capital the following weekend for the first Edinburgh Derby of the Season on Sunday 4 October. With a new Head Coach in the dugout, the Jambos have made an emphatic start to their title defence, scoring eleven goals and not conceding in their first two fixtures. However, Hearts will be well aware of the challenges posed by both City and Hibs, with each side taking points from them last season.

BBC Sport Scotland have confirmed two further fixtures that will be streamed live on BBC iPlayer, with both matches taking place at Petershill as Partick Thistle face Celtic on Sunday 6 September and Rangers on Sunday 4 October. Having secured an impressive third top six finish in four years last season, Partick Thistle will be aiming to replicate that achievement again this campaign. They will have an early opportunity to make their mark, with fixtures against Old Firm opposition providing the chance to pick up valuable points.
