SWPL Confirm Initial Broadcast Matches for Season 2026/27

As the opening matches of the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League (SPWPL) 2026/27 Season near, the Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) can confirm the initial League matches selected for broadcast in August.

The games selected across BBC ALBA and BBC Scotland are as follows:

BBC ALBA have selected two fixtures in the month, kicking off with what is expected to be a pulsating clash between Glasgow City and Celtic on matchday one. Grant Scott’s side will be looking to start the season with a positive result and the Hoops played out two close-fought draws on their two visits to Petershill Park against City last season. Meanwhile, Glasgow City finished the 2025/26 Season in strong fashion with a stunning 6-0 win against Rangers and will be hoping they can start the new campaign in a similar vein.

BBC ALBA have also selected the clash between last season’s top two sides on Sunday 30 August as Rangers travel to the capital to face 2025/26 SPWPL Champions, Hearts. There has been a lot of change for the current League Champions over the summer, including the arrival of new Head Coach, Andy Thomson. Thomson will be very familiar with Rangers, having recently left his role there as Assistant Manager and he will be seeking a positive start against his previous club. Leanne Crichton’s Rangers came agonisingly close to silverware last season, finishing runners up in both the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League and the Sky Sports Cup. They will be hoping to make an early statement of intent against Hearts to try and reclaim the League title for the first time since 2022.

Sunday 30 August will also see Celtic host Hibernian, live streamed on BBC Sport Scotland. Hibs finished positively last season, losing only one game in the post-split phase and Joelle Murray’s Leith side will be looking to carry that form into the new season as they take on Celtic at their new home in Kirkintilloch.
