Team of the Week from ScottishPower Women’s Premier League games played on Wednesday 6th, Saturday 9th, and Sunday 10th November.
Goalkeeper & Star Player – Kelsey Daugherty (Celtic)
It’s fair to say that without Kelsey Daugherty, Celtic would be out of the Sky Sports Cup after a grueling 120 minutes of football against Glasgow City. While she wasn’t tested significantly during the match, she was alert throughout and became the hero during penalties as she saved both Natalia Wrobel and Nicole Kozlova’s penalties. Her save to deny Kozlova was particularly special and gave Natalie Ross the moment to win the game for Celtic.

Defender – Chloe Warrington (Glasgow City)
On the other side of Sunday’s Quarter-Final was Chloe Warrington, a former Celtic player. The full-back was one of the few players who featured for the full 120 minutes as Glasgow City kept Celtic at bay during the match. Voted as Player of the Match for her side, it’s easy to see why after a clean-sheet and an energetic performance across the full match including extra-time.
Defender – Kelly Clark (Celtic)
It’s been a busy week for Captain Clark as she played the full 90 minutes against Queen’s Park midweek before 120 minutes against Glasgow City on Sunday. Not only did she help her side to back-to-back clean sheets, Clark was also providing at the other end. She gave her side a 2-0 lead against Queen’s Park with a header and provided an assist for the final goal. It’s a busy period for Celtic and they’ll be hoping Clark continues her fine form in the heart of defence.
Defender – Niamh Noble (Aberdeen)
It was a mixed week for the Dons but it ended on a high with progression to the Semi-Final of the Sky Sports Cup. Noble played the full 90 in both matches and most importantly put their Quarter-Final tie against Boroughmuir Thistle beyond doubt with the third and final goal. It was a direct finish from a corner and while she may not score another like that again, Scott Booth will be hoping for more dangerous deliveries into the box from her.

Midfielder – Hannah Stewart (Aberdeen)
Captain Stewart has led her side to the Sky Sports Cup Semi-Final when they’ll face Hibernian, likely considered the best outcome for the lowest ranked team left in the competition. With her side 1-0 down against Thistle on Sunday, Stewart took the responsibility of the penalty and scored to bring her side level. Stewart and the Dons now know they are just one win away from a historic final.
Midfielder – Cailin Michie (Boroughmuir Thistle)
It wasn’t to be for the only SWPL 2 side left in the Sky Sports Cup but it was a valiant effort by Thistle. Emily Arthur gave them an early lead over Aberdeen and they kept their opponents at bay for 30 minutes before being pegged back. Unsurprisingly, Michie showed her experience at the top level for her side in that match as well as in their 1-o midweek win over Ayr United. 58% of Michie’s total actions in both games were successful and with 114 total actions on Wednesday, Michie was all over the pitch for her side to help get the win in the league.
Midfielder – Rosie Slater (Partick Thistle)
A repeat of last seasons’ historic success in the Sky Sports Cup wasn’t to be for Partick Thistle as they were knocked out of the competition by Hibernian. Last season the Jags were 2-0 winners over the Edinburgh side at the Semi-Final stage and convincing winners that evening. This time around, the two sides were fairly well matched until a nine minute hat-trick from Kathleen McGovern put Hibs out of sight. It was yet another battling performance from Thistle with Slater voted as Player of the Match for her side.
Midfielder – Louisa Boyes (Motherwell)
It was also a mixed week for Motherwell who were 6-0 winners over Aberdeen midweek to lift them into the top half of the table before succumbing to a heavy 8-1 defeat to Rangers in the Sky Sports Cup. While it was mainly a Saturday night to forget, Boyes earns her place after returns in both matches. She got the assist for their only goal against Rangers plus she provided four goal contributions against Aberdeen, including a hat-trick. The midfielder can count herself unlucky to not be Star Player as Paul Brownlie will hope she continues her fine form before the split.

Forward – Katie Wilkinson (Rangers)
Any ideas of Wilkinson slowing down this season were blown away after an incredible five goal contributions against Motherwell on Saturday. The forward scored another hat-trick this season, got two assists, and she even provided the ‘third’ assist for their opening goal. It was an emphatic performance from Wilkinson who will be hoping to lift her first silverware with Rangers in March.
Forward – Clare Docherty (Ayr United)
It was a narrow defeat against Boroughmuir Thistle for Ayr United who remain bottom of the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League 2 table. It was a night that could have been different for the home side as Docherty struck the crossbar with a free-kick and forced a good save from distance. The forward earns her place for her threatening performance and will be hoping to convert chances into goals as they look to avoid relegation.
Forward – Kathleen McGovern (Hibernian)
If Hibs were out for revenge against Partick Thistle, then they eventually got it with a 4-1 win at Petershill Park on Sunday. The away side were pushed all the way until McGovern turned the game in Hibs’ favour with a nine minute hat-trick. It was a clinical spell for the forward who now has back-to-back hat-tricks in the Sky Sports Cup. The Edinburgh side will host Aberdeen in the next round and will be considered favourites to reach the 2024/25 Final.
