Team of the Week from ScottishPower Women’s Premier League games played on 28th September
————————
Goalkeeper – Lee Gibson (Glasgow City)
It was a standout performance from Gibson on Sunday, as she showed why she is one of the stars of the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League. Helping her side to a clean sheet and maximum points at Ibrox, she made three important saves to deny Rangers. Along with 100% accuracy for her short passes, it was yet another performance to remember for Gibson in City colours. Leanne Ross’ side now sit top of the table as they look to win their first title since 2022/23.

Defender – Siobhan Hunter (Hibernian)
Hibs returned to winning ways on Sunday, a 5-0 victory away to newly promoted Hamilton Academical. While Accies did test Hibs, the Edinburgh side still came away with a clean sheet, with Hunter playing her part. Going forward, the defender got herself a brace as she headed home twice. She also boasted impressive stats, successfully completing 90% of all 99 of her actions on Sunday, including 93% passing accuracy and 78% of duels won.
Defender – Tegan Browning (Motherwell)
The Women of Steel boosted their top-six aspirations on Sunday as they defeated fellow challengers Aberdeen 2-0 at home. There’s little to split the bottom five clubs currently, but Motherwell move a point clear after their victory. Browning played her part in the heart of defence, helping to deny the Dons any clear chances and doubling Motherwell’s lead with a header after 26 minutes. Winning 86% of her duels and 80% of her aerial duels, it was a solid showing from the 21-year-old.
Defender – Taylor McGlashan (Kilmarnock)
Kilmarnock are top of ScottishPower Women’s Premier League 2, level on points with Spartans and undefeated. It was their third 5-0 victory in a row in the league, rounding off an incredible month for the Rugby Park side. At the heart of their defence and clean sheet run is McGlashan, who went close to opening the scoring on Sunday before eventually getting the fourth of the game. If Killie do lift the title at the end of the campaign, McGlashan could be the signing of the season.
Defender – Fiona Gibson (Boroughmuir Thistle)
It’s back-to-back 5-0 wins for Boroughmuir Thistle, keeping them very much in the title race in ScottishPower Women’s Premier League 2. In the league, they haven’t conceded throughout September, and Gibson has played her part both defensively and going forward. While she didn’t contribute to any goals directly on Sunday, she was responsible for two key passes, 16 passes into the final third, 20 progressive passes, made five progressive runs, and had the second-highest ball progression rate this round across the league. There can be no denying her contribution overall.

Midfielder – Amy Anderson (Glasgow City)
While Gibson was keeping the goals out, Anderson was keeping the heartbeat of City ticking on Sunday. Playing the full match in the middle of the park away at Ibrox is no easy feat, but she rose to the occasion. The midfielder was accurate with 84% of her passes, won 76% of her duels, made nine interceptions and 11 recoveries compared to just five losses. With performances like this, Anderson is becoming a staple of the City team.
Midfielder & Star Player – Summer Thomson (Queen’s Park)
Without a goal yet this season, Thomson turned on a tap on Sunday as she got a hat-trick. Her goals showed her versatility, with goals one and three being good positions to score, while her second goal involved pace and composure before a fine finish on the angle. With 10 shots during the match, seven of which were on target, Thomson was a menace against East Fife on Sunday. Playing her first full match for the club, the Spiders will be hoping for more of the same for the rest of the season.
Midfielder – Jessica Linden (Gartcairn)
It was a pleasant reunion for Greame Hart against his old side as Gartcairn prevailed 2-0 against Dundee United on Sunday, jumping above them in the table. As many expected, it was a close game that was really only finished with Linden’s goal after 77 minutes. She was solid throughout the match, with 75% of her passes accurate, winning 64% of her duels, and 75% of her aerial duels, as well as 16 recoveries.

Forward – Carly Johns (Hearts)
Johns got her first brace for Hearts on Sunday, doubling her tally for the season. The English forward found herself in good positions for both goals, putting Partick Thistle to the sword in their 5-0 away win. Alongside her goals, she had a further three shots on target, and 76% of her passes were accurate. Eva Olid’s side remain 4th in the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League, five points behind Glasgow City.
Forward – Amy Gallacher (Celtic)
Celtic returned to winning ways on Sunday, defeating Montrose 4-0 at Links Park. It was an enjoyable trip back to Angus for Gallacher, a former Forfar Farmington player, as she scored twice and provided an assist. She was a constant threat on Sunday, taking eight shots during the match (three of which were on target) and achieving an 84% passing accuracy. The forward doubled her tally for the season, and Celtic fans will be hoping for more in the coming weeks and months.
Forward – Natalie Bandura (Spartans)
It’s a return to the Team of the Week for Bandura, who bagged a vital hat-trick in Spartans’ 3-1 away win over St Johnstone. Her goals take her level with Cara Gray at the top of the goalscorers chart, as well as keeping her side level on points with Kilmarnock at the top of ScottishPower Women’s Premier League 2. We said the Edinburgh side is seeking an immediate return to the top flight, and Bandrua is playing her part to help them.
