Team of the Week from ScottishPower Women’s Premier League games played on 23rd November.

————————

Goalkeeper – Beth Rennie (Boroughmuir Thistle)

Boroughmuir Thistle jumped up to second in the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League 2, leapfrogging Spartans after their 1-0 win. Holly Aitchison got the only goal from the penalty spot, while Rennie was keeping their Edinburgh rivals at bay. She made five saves, a couple of particular note, as well as boasting a 91% passing accuracy rate. Thistle remain 10 points behind leaders Kilmarnock and will be aiming for a play-off spot at a minimum.

Defender – Scarlett Herron (Hibernian)

Nothing could separate Glasgow City and Hibernian on Sunday, the second draw between the sides this season. Both defences dominated with neither side able to find a breakthrough with Herron being selected as Hibs’ player of the match. The Irish defender won 80% of her duels, 100% of aerials duels, made six interceptions, and 14 recoveries compared to just seven loses. Combined with a 79% passing accuracy, she certainly played her part in the Hibees clean sheet.

Defender – Lana Golob (Glasgow City)

At the other end of the pitch, it’s only right to include a Glasgow City defender. The ScottishPower Women’s Premier League leaders remain unbeaten domestically, but their lead has been cut to four points after Hearts’ victory. With nearly 100 actions (98), Golob is included for keeping Hibs quiet. She boasted an 88% passing accuracy, whilst winning 100% of her aerial duels, and the majority of her duels overall. An excellent afternoon for the Slovenian international.

Defender – Cassie Cowper (Montrose)

Montrose climbed back into the top six of the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League, defeating Aberdeen 2-1 and earning North East Scotland bragging rights in the process. The Mighty Mo fought back from 1-0 down thanks to goals from Kaela McDonald-Nguah and Louise Brown. While they didn’t get a clean sheet, Cowper earns her place as she won 83% of her duels, made four interceptions, and an impressive 19 recoveries compared to just five loses. It’s a potentially massive result, which moves Craig Feroz’s side six points ahead of the Dons who are in the relegation play-off spot.

Midfielder – Jodi McLeary (Rangers)

It’s another inclusion in the Team of the Week in November for McLearly as Rangers came away 3-0 winners over Motherwell. The midfielder provided two assists for the Gers, receiving the ball deep before threading passes into the forwards. In the 73 minutes she featured, she had a 69% passing accuracy rate, won 64% of her duels and made three interceptions in the heart of the midfield. It’s a result that moves Rangers up to third and reducing the gap to leaders Glasgow City.

Midfielder – Amy Gallacher (Celtic)

Celtic returned to winning ways on Sunday, coming away 2-0 winners at home to Partick Thistle. While it wasn’t their most clinical afternoon, it’s another win and a clean sheet as they jump above Hibernian in the table. Gallacher, playing in a slightly deeper role on Sunday, got one of the only goals of the game from an xG of just 0.15. She had a further shot, 80% passing accuracy, and three interceptions. She’ll look start a goalscoring run after having not scored in the league since the end of September before Sunday.

Midfielder – Abby Robinson (Kilmarnock)

It seems like nothing can stop Kilmarnock this season, now 10 points clear at the top of ScottishPower Women’s Premier League 2. While conceding two goals was unlike the Killie side we’ve come to know this season, they scored seven in reply, with Robinson grabbing a hat-trick. The club legend was somewhat unstoppable on Sunday with three goals, an assist, seven shots in total, and ten interceptions. After coming so close in previous seasons, they’ll hope that 2025/26 is their time for glory.

Midfielder – Rosie McQuillan (Queen’s Park)

Another midfielder in ScottishPower Women’s Premier League 2 getting a hat-trick on Sunday was McQuillan in Queen’s Park’s 4-2 win away to Gartcairn. She was in the right place for her first two goals before curling in a slightly fortunate free-kick to get her third. While it wasn’t her best defensive performance from the 66 minutes she played, she got three vital goals, had a further shot and boasted a 77% passing accuracy as the Spiders remain in the play-off zone.

Forward – Justine Strain (Livingston)

The third and final player in ScottishPower Women’s Premier League 2 to get a hat-trick on Sunday was Strain as Livigston were comfortable 6-0 winners against Stirling University. The Livi forward played the full match, having five shots in total with an xG of 1.45. Impressively for her position, she also won the majority of her duels and had a passing accuracy rate of 74%. The result gives Livingston breathing room from the bottom two, now six points clear of the relegation play-off spot and level on points with St Johnstone.

Forward & Star Player– Georgia Timms (Heart of Midlothian)

It’s yet another team of the week inclusion for a Hearts forward, one of many this campaign. Timms earns her place with a hat-trick and two assists, getting star player in the process. The forward put in a typical display on Sunday, deadly in front of goal and threatening throughout with seven total shots. She also brought teammates into play with 81% passing accuracy and delivering six crosses. The Jambos 8-1 win over Hamilton Accies keeps them second and has reduced the gap to Glasgow City down to four points.

Forward – Lyla Marnie (Dundee United)

Dundee United finished November unbeaten in ScottishPower Women’s Premier League 2, securing their biggest win of the season in the process. The Tangerines were 7-0 winners away to East Fife with six different goalscorers. Marnie is included, the only player score twice in the 59 minutes she played, as well as having four shots that were all on target. The forward was also solid on the ball with an 80% passing accuracy rate and making only six loses. United remain just outside the play-off zone, a point behind Queen’s Park.
