Reigning champions Hearts will begin their title defence under new Head Coach, Andy Thomson, by hosting Aberdeen on the opening day of the season. Hearts will undoubtedly be looking forward to the 2026/27 campaign after they created history on the final day of the 2025/26 season by clinching their first ever SPWPL title. Meanwhile, Aberdeen retained their place in the top-flight by defeating Queen’s Park 5-0 in the Play-Off Final at the Albert Bartlett Stadium in May. The Jambos won both meetings between the two clubs last season.
Newly promoted Spartans will kick off their SPWPL return at home to Partick Thistle. Spartans fought back a 15-point deficit to claim the SPWPL 2 title and return to the top division at the first time of asking. Gary Holt’s Partick Thistle secured top-six status last season and will be looking to start the 2026/27 with a win in the capital.
Rangers will begin the campaign with a trip to Links Park to face Montrose. Leanne Crichton’s side finished SPWPL runners-up last season, securing European football. The Mighty Mo had a strong finish to the season, after narrowly missing out on a top-six spot and will be looking to build on this going into the new campaign.
Petershill Park will host an exciting opening day fixture between 2025/26 Sky Sports Cup winners Glasgow City and Celtic. Meetings between the two sides are traditionally close affairs, with three of the four matches in the 2025/26 season ending all square. After finishing fifth last season, Grant Scott’s Celtic will be looking to start on a positive note with a victory.
The final matchup of the first weekend in the SPWPL will see Motherwell travel to Meadowbank Stadium to face Hibernian. Joelle Murray’s side will be keen to carry on the impressive form of last season, losing only one match in the post-split phase. Similarly, Motherwell had a positive end to the previous campaign, as they ended the season in seventh place, unbeaten following the split.
The first Edinburgh Derby of the season between Hibernian and Hearts will take place on Sunday 4 October, with the reverse fixture taking place on Sunday 15 November. The bragging rights were split last season, with both sides each winning two of their four meetings.
Rangers and Celtic will meet on Sunday 27 September and on Sunday 15 November. Leanne Crichton’s side had the upper hand in this fixture last season, as Rangers won all four league outings between the two Glasgow sides.
In the SPWPL 2, last season’s runners-up Kilmarnock will begin the season by travelling to newly promoted Renfrew on the opening day. Kilmarnock narrowly missed out on automatic promotion as Spartans clinched the title in a dramatic conclusion to the 2025/26 campaign. Renfrew will be hoping to start their first SPWPL 2 season with a positive result following their promotion as winners of the Scottish Women’s Championship.
After gaining promotion via the Play-Offs, Falkirk will begin their SPWPL 2 journey with a trip to Foundation Park to face Dundee United. Dundee United ended the season just outside the Play-Off spots in fifth place.
Hamilton Academical return to SPWPL 2 following their relegation from the top division and will begin the new season by travelling to face Queen’s Park. Robert Watson’s side will be looking to return to the top-flight at the first opportunity, as they did in the 2024/25 season. The Spiders had an impressive finish to their 2025/26 season, making the Play-Off Final following their fourth-place finish in the league table.
Gartcairn, who finished in sixth place last season, start by welcoming Boroughmuir Thistle on the opening day. Boroughmuir Thistle had a strong end to their season, just missing out on the Play-Off Semi-Final in a narrow 1-0 defeat to Queen’s Park.
Livingston travel to St Johnstone in the final pairing of the opening day. St Johnstone maintained their SPWPL2 status with a dramatic 92nd minute winner over East Fife on the final day of last season, which saw them avoid the Play-Off Final. Livingston, who finished seventh in the 2025/26 SPWPL2 table, will be hoping to better that position in 2026/27.
Fiona McIntyre, Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) Managing Director, said: “We are delighted to announce the fixtures for the 2026/27 season on the back of another hugely exciting campaign as both leagues went down to the final day, for the first time.
The launch of the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League and ScottishPower Women’s Premier League 2 fixtures is always a highly anticipated date in the calendar as clubs and fans alike get a first look at what awaits them in the upcoming season.
We look forward to the new campaign getting underway and encourage supporters to play their part by getting along to support their team on the opening day, as the new season begins.”
Keith Anderson, ScottishPower CEO, said: “Our partnership with the Scottish Women’s Premier League – as well as the women’s game itself – has grown from strength to strength and is really firing on all cylinders as we look ahead to 2026/27.
With three fantastic seasons under our belt, we’re proud to be extending our sponsorship of the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League and ScottishPower Women’s Premier League 2 into next season and have no doubt it will be another year of exciting performances and nail-biting matches.
The very best of luck to all the teams, backroom staff, volunteers and supporters as we countdown to kick-off.”
