Emma Thomson and Dionne Brown have collected the February 2023/24 Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) Player of the Month awards, supported by Park’s Motor Group.
Thomson becomes the youngest winner of the award since the new formation of the SWPL. The 16 year old goalkeeper starred for Hamilton Academical as they climbed off the foot of the table in February with a 2-1 win over Motherwell and a 1-1 draw with Spartans.
While Thomson conceded one goal in both games, she faced a total of 16 shots across the two matches. This included four one-on-one or point blank saves for her side.
Thomson will next participate in the Scotland Women’s Under-17 squad that will travel to Poland later this month for the upcoming UEFA Round 2 Tournament.
Dionne Brown wins the award for Kilmarnock after helping her side to two wins from two matches in the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League 2.
The forward scored three goals and provided two assists for her side as they tightened their grip on the promotion play-off spot. Brown’s performances included at least one goal and one assist in both matches.
Kilmarnock currently sit 2nd, seven points clear of Livingston and eight clear of Boroughmuir Thistle with nine games remaining in the 2023/24 season. They are 10 points behind Queen’s Park in the race for the title.
The nominees for the February 2024 SWPL award were Ava Easdon (Partick Thistle), Natasha Flint (Celtic), and Eilidh Shore (Aberdeen) and for the SWPL 2 award were Kaela McDonald-Nguah (Gartcairn) and Ami Robertson (Queen’s Park).
